COLOMBO (News 1st):- The first lunar eclipse of the year could be witnessed in the night today (January 9). However, it will only appear as a shadow eclipse.

Astronomer Professor Chandana Jayarathne of the University of Colombo says that the eclipse could be viewed from 10.38 pm today (January 10) until 1.42 am tomorrow (January 11).

He further said that four other lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses are due to occur within the year.
