Colombo (News 1st): Leader of the Tamil National Alliance R. Sampanthan spoke about the debt burden of the country. He noted that it is a known fact that the country is neck-deep in debt both domestically and internationally.
He added that their income is insufficient to service the debt, therefore the country is in the doldrums. He said they need massive investments, both domestic and foreign. He went onto note that all these things have been spoken about in the past, but things have not happened.
Sampanthan noted that they have not been able to get their act together and have been in conflict shortly after independence. He said government commitments, both domestic and international have not been kept. He added that the governments have blamed each other, however, the country and its people have not been salvaged.
