Health officials on alert regarding influenza-like disease

Colombo (News 1st) - Health authorities have said to take precautions against an influenza-like disease, that has affected many in Sri Lanka. When News 1st inquired, health authorities noted that the influenza-like disease will occur with a cough or cold. Speaking to News 1st Chief Epidemiologist at the Epidemiology Unit, said that most of these conditions subside but there are some instances where this could lead to pneumonia. According to Dr. Ginige, individuals who fall in the high-risk category such as the elderly, people diagnosed with chronic diseases, expecting mothers have an increased chance of developing complications. Dr. Ginige warned that even healthy people can fall prey to these complications and suggested that they seek medical care.
