Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne retires

COLOMBO(News 1st) -  Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne retired from his position, today(December 31). A ceremony to mark the occasion was held at the BMICH in Colombo. Commanders of the forces, acting Inspector General of Police and several other dignitaries attended the event. CDS Admiral Wijegunarathna joined the Sri Lanka Navy in November 1980 as an officer cadet of the 9th Intake and completed his initial training at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. Thereafter, he joined the prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK after being named best Executive Cadet of the batch. CDS Admiral Wijegunarathna served as the Commander of Sri Lanka Navy from the 11th of July 2015 to the 22nd of August 2017. Admiral Wijegunaratne was instrumental in forming the Sri Lanka Navy's Special Forces element known as the Special Boat Squadron as well as the Marine Squadron.
