COLOMBO(News 1st) – Will the position of speaker change at the new parliamentary session?

State Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara made an open invitation to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on the matter. Vasudeva Nanayakkara, State Minister of Water Supply Facilities noted that although the President and Prime Minister have changed, the speaker has not.

He added that the Speaker must realize the public mandate and step down. He further added that they could have impeached him along with the help of several UNP MPs but they did not want to cause turmoil.
