COLOMBO (News 1st) – State Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara spoke about views expressed with regard to the language of the national anthem today (December 29).
He expressed these views at a media briefing in Eheliyagoda.
Vasudeva Nanayakkara, State Minister of Water Supply Facilities stated that the constitution ensures the right of the Tamil people to sing the national anthem in their mother tongue. He added that the previous government started a new concept.
He added that the former government introduced playing the Sinhala national anthem at the beginning of the independence day ceremony and playing the Tamil anthem at the end of it.
State minister added that it was a good initiative and it will help the Tamil community to feel that they are a part of our community.
“The person who did not let them sing our national anthem in Tamil was Prabhakaran” he added.
