Import tax on potatoes reduced

Colombo (News 1st) The import tax which was imposed on potatoes has been reduced by Rs. 25, effective from midnight today (December 25). Secretary to the Ministry of Finance S.R. Attygalle said, the import tax previously stood at Rs. 50. The Secretary added this decision was taken as a result of increasing prices of vegetables in the local market. He further added that a deficit in the supply of potatoes from local farmers had also created an impact on this decision.
