Colombo (News 1st) – Professor W.D. Lakshman has been appointed as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. This was confirmed to News 1st by Deputy Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe.

Professor Lakshman earlier served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Colombo University. Specialising in the field of Economics, he was conferred with the title of Deshamanya Keerthi in 2005.
