We will not let the opposition be subdued, we will fight back: Akila Viraj Kariyawasam

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa expressed his views on the arrest of Patali Champika Ranawaka. Sajith Premadasa noted that former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka gave his utmost support to their election campaign and from the beginning, he took a decision to dedicate his support to make sure that Sajith Premadasa wins the election. Sajith Premadasa added that they will do whatever it takes legally to ensure his freedom. Meanwhile, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam during a media briefing held at the Sirikotha UNP Headquarters shared his thoughts on the matter. He noted that the arrest was illegal and in 2010, Sarath Fonseka was arrested merely because he competed in the presidential election. He added that apparently the government has resumed their streak of political vengeance. He shared that they have already received information that several other MPs are to be arrested as well. "They are trying to subdue the opposition through these actions. We will not allow this. We would like to clearly state that we will take action to fight back" he concluded.
