UNP MP Sajith Premadasa: We were only given a limited time. Killing time was on their agenda. The opportunity was given at the last minute. That too was given because of the public outcry. I will not explain the obstacles and issues that I had to face. Even though we were defeated, when looking at history, we know we can come back from this drawback. In a few months, we will have to face a general election. I would like to tell all of you, I will protect all our members. Anyone can utilize their aides and create nominal positions and appoint themselves. They can even use two or three people and recommend other names for Deputy Leadership. Sajith Premadasa does not see the worth in titles that are given to me without the blessings of the people. No matter which stance we were on, due to the actions of certain people, our patriotic stance was undermined and other opinions surfaced. Even the candidacy was given after much controversy. I am not ready to play around like that. I will not waste time chasing various positions. I would like to say this, the responsibility is in your hands. The disappointing fact is, during the Presidential Election, they were not bothered to print and distribute our election manifesto but now they can allocate ample funds to print pamphlets which are detrimental towards me. Those are sent via post. They are attempting to remove Sajith Premadasa from the political arena, from within. This is not being done by an outside party, it is being done from within. It is not healthy to hold onto power for decades like an octopus." Sajith Premadasa expressed views on the conduct of the current government as well. Sajith Premadasa stated that farming communities are expecting to receive fertilizer for free, as they were promised. He added that if the government is prepared to exercise their promise as a responsible opposition, they will extend their fullest support for it. He added that the government said that they would refrain from the MCC agreement but it's not what they promised now. He went on to note that their stance is that the MCC agreement should be completely removed from the country's agenda including other detrimental agreements. He added that they will extend their support to 6.9 million who voted with the expectation that all these agreements would be made null and void.
