COLOMBO (News 1st) - Another phase of the program carried out by the Sri Lanka Army to provide houses to low-income families was carried out in Jaffna today, under the auspices of Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya. Laying the foundation for the 700th housing project, another two houses, constructed in Karaveddy and Point Pedro were vested with the people. The 699th housing project was vested with Piradees Mayuri. She thanked the army for doing something like this for the Tamil community. She added that they were battered during the heavy showers in the recent past and there were many instances where the roof of their house was about to fall on their heads. She went on to note that their difficult time would be finally over. The labour required for the construction activities was provided by the Army. The 700th house was vested with Anandarasa Mangesa and he was more than happy with his new house. Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander of the Security Forces, Jaffna: "At this point, another 27 houses are being constructed in Jaffna. These houses are being constructed by the officers of the army. There are some officers who were not able to complete their own house, we should pay our respects to them. Major General further added that no matter what language they speak, no matter what religion we follow, we are all children of one mother. He went on to note that seven mass scale hospitals are currently being operated with the labour of the army and the financial support of the government. We do not segregate anyone based on their religion, caste, or nationality. We will treat everyone equally."
