04/21 commission to record evidence on Baticaloa explosion

Colombo (News 1st): The presidential commission appointed to look into the April 21st attacks notes that evidence with regard to the explosions that took place at a church in Batticaloa and Saindamarudu in Ampara, will be called for immediately.

The secretary to the commission, H.M.B.P. Herath said, investigations into these attacks are currently underway, and a team of 40 police officers has been deployed for this purpose.

The secretary said, Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and two deputy inspector generals, had also provided evidence. Herath also said the interim report of the commission will be handed over to the president on Thursday.

Meanwhile, police said, 47 suspects arrested in connection to the 4/21 attacks remain in custody. Police said, thus far, 27 arrested suspects have been remanded, and of the 27 suspects, 2 are female.
