Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa will not attend the Constitutional Council session tomorrow

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Constitutional Council is expected to meet tomorrow morning under the auspices of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. The Constitutional Council was formed following the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, and the Speaker, Prime Minister, and Opposition Leader are appointed to the Constitutional Council in their official capacity. According to sources from Parliament, as Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in as the Prime Minister, he would be able to attend the meeting of the Constitutional Council tomorrow (December 12). However, Sajith Premadasa, who was named as opposition leader is yet to be informed about the meeting of the Constitutional Council as he was not officially declared the opposition leader at a Parliamentary session. Therefore, tomorrow's meeting of the Constitutional Council will be held in the absence of an opposition leader. Meanwhile, MPs and Civil Society members who were previously represented at the Constitutional Council, have been informed in writing, to attend the meeting.
