Police search for more info on IP Nishantha Silva

Colombo (News 1st): The Police says, it would take steps to record a statement from the Department of Immigration and Emigration with regard to the incident where IP Nishantha Silva who is attached to the CID, had flown overseas without prior notice. The Special Investigation Unit of the Police HQ said, the information will be gathered in this regard as part of an extensive investigation that is being carried out into the matter. The Special Investigation Unit said that it has already recorded statements from 5 officials attached to the CID. Among the officials who have provided statements, is the former Director of the CID, SSP Shani Abeysekara. Accordingly, a statement from SSP Shani Abeysekara had been recorded for nearly three hours, last Friday. The Special Investigations Unit said IP Nishantha Silva had requested leave for 2 days. The Special Investigations Unit added that investigations have revealed, while such a request should be approved by the Director of the CID as well as the DIG in charge of the CID, IP Nishantha Silva had left the country before such approval was granted.
