Showery conditions expected to enhance

Colombo (News 1st): Issuing a weather advisory the Meteorological Department noted that due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the south of Sri Lanka, prevailing showery conditions are expected to enhance over the Northern, Eastern, North-central, Uva and Central provinces, particularly today (December 4) and tomorrow (December 5). They add that cloudy skies can be expected over the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and Southern provinces and in the Kurunegala district. Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 1.00 p.m. Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in the Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Mullaitivu, Nuwara-Eliya, Badulla and Monaragala districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in the North-Central, Sabaragamuva, Southern and Western provinces and in the Matale, Kandy, Jaffna, Mannar, Kilinochchi, and Vavuniya districts. Fairly strong gusty winds up to 55 kmph can be expected over the island particularly in the North-Western, Southern, Central, Uva and North-Central provinces.
