Government assures Suraksha Insurance will not be abolished

Colombo (News 1st): The Government assured that the Suraksha Students Insurance will not be abolished. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya assuming duties as State Minister of Educational Services, explained the student welfare program. He said;
"Within two weeks after schools reopen, we will provide the vouchers for uniforms and shoes. And another thing that was discussed is this Suraksha Insuarance. We will not stop it. No matter who started it its a good thing. Children are protected by it. So we will resume the Suraksha Insurance Scheme."
Meanwhile, issuing a statement Minister of Education Dullas Alahapperuma said no decision was made to abolish the Suraksha Children’s Insurance scheme by the government, adding it was one of the key projects implemented for the benefit of students in recent times. The statement adds, a decision was reached to do away with the short-comings in the insurance scheme and continue with it providing maximum benefits to the students. The minister adds, news reports claiming the government abolished the Suraksha Insurance scheme is false. Children are the future of our nation. We appreciate that the safety of children is ensured. However, millions of public funds were exchanged among individuals under the guise of protecting children. News 1st has been reporting on these irregularities. It is the hope of the people that the insurance scheme should continue for the betterment of the students, and those who engaged in fraudulent transactions be investigated.
