COLOMBO(News 1st) - The SLPP Meerigama Balamandala meeting got underway today under the auspices of Minister Prasanna Ranatunga. Provincial politicians and members representing the SLPP in the area attended the meeting. Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister of Tourism and Aviation: "We have a major challenge in this country. We have set up an interim government without a majority. we will not be able to present a budget. Even if we do, we are not sure that it would be passed. Our time will end by February. we will definitely go in for an election. After the election with the majority given by the people, we will be able to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as the prime minister. Thereafter we will be able to fulfill the aspirations of the people. We don't have a majority in the parliament. If we are to establish a majority we have to join in Tamil and Muslim extremist leaders. However, this election result showed us that we need not do this. That is why the Sinhalese majority of this country gave the power to Gotabhya Rajapaksa. The cabinet has been reduced to 15. Many hearts have been hurt. But everyone was called told that that the people of this country voted for us to work for the country and therefore everyone cannot be given ministerial posts. We need to make some sacrifices too just as we ask the people of the country to make sacrifices. We need to set the precedence. The President reduced the number of vehicles allocated for him. I personally do not approve of it because his security is more important. If something happened to him who would carry the country forward."
