COLOMBO (News 1st) - A media briefing which was attended by several members of the Joint Opposition, was held at the Headquarters of the SLPP, today (November 20). UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma stated that they are creating a lawful civilized state and extended his arms to everyone and requested them to join them in their endeavour. He added that former President Chandrika Kumaratunga was very unfair during this election and taught everyone a lesson on how a state leader should not act during a Presidential election. He added that she created an impression in people's minds that all retired presidents' are like used lotteries. Wimal Weerawansa, leader of the National Freedom Front: "The road opposite the Presidential Secretariat had been closed during the event where the President assumed duties. However, as soon as he stepped out of the car, the President asked for the road to be re-opened. He also ordered the fire engine which was brought there, to be sent away. He also ordered not to place his portrait at state institutions and instead ordered to place a state symbol. There are over 2,000 employees at the Presidential Secretariat. He is drawing up plans to reduce that number to 250. He has a great desire to eradicate corruption, reduce wastage and to write a new chapter in the Sri Lankan political arena. The current government if responsible for any acts of misuse of power and if those allegations are proven, we intend to take swift legal action against those wrongdoers. Former President Maithripala Sirisena himself had appointed a Presidential Commission to probe corruption and fraud in the current government.  Through that commission, allegations have been levelled against Sajith Premadasa, Rajitha Senaratna and Akhila Viraj Kariyawasam through the commission's report. There are recommendations in the report to initiate legal action, to file cases in court. We intend to expedite these matters. As you all know, an individual was run over in the Rajagiriya area a few months ago, and the CCTV footage was deleted. That person is a cripple now, his life has been destroyed. We will launch a probe into that incident as well. Two youth came forward to provide evidence regarding the incident.  They said that Patali Champika Ranawaka was the driver at the time the accident took place. However, they received death threats and they had to travel overseas. We will initiate legal action into the incident. We also saw a beautiful female MP who was kidnapping people in Defenders. Look at her good upbringing. We will look into those claims as well. Arjuna Mahendran, who is a Singaporean national, looted the Central Bank while he was Governor of the Central Bank. We will take legal proceedings forward and bring everyone remotely connected to this incident, before the law. The mastermind behind the Bond Scam is still at large." Journalist: We can see those in the UNP are willing to support. People like Rajitha. Will you agree to it? Wimal Wirawansa noted that they would not take him in. Journalist: Many officials attached to Army intelligence are currently imprisoned and are on death row. Will they be released? MP Dullas Alahapperuma noted that they will seek the assistance of the Attorney General's Department before releasing those who are have been imprisoned based on false claims. Journalist: They say this is a Presidential Election and not one held to choose a Prime Minister. Wimal Wirawansa reflected on the incident which occurred on the 8th of January 2015 to this question.
