Colombo (News 1st) – Speaking to reporters in Maharagama last night, MP Dinesh Gunawardena shared his views on the future of the Government. He stated that a General election could not be held until the end of February based on the provisions of the 19th amendment. However, the MP noted that this could be circumvented if both groups in parliament come together to create a 2/3rd majority.
MP Gunawardena noted that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would create a new Government in the coming days adding that he would be the head of the new Government and new cabinet. Gunawardene also called on those who were rejected by the people, to respect the people’s mandate and hand over the reins of power to President Rajapaksa.
When questioned about the distribution of ministries under the new administration, MP Gunawardena played coy and avoided the issue stating only that there won’t be any issues.
