Colombo (News 1st): An alms giving was held this afternoon at the Abhayarama Temple, Narahenpita in celebration of the 74th birthday of the Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. The almsgiving was held under the auspices of the Chief Incumbent of the Narahenpita Abhayaramaya Viharaya Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero. The event was attended by a group including the opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. Afterwards, Mahinda Rajapaksa and Shiranthi Rajapaksa offered alms to the seven mothers. The Opposition Leader answered questions raised by the journalist after this event.
Journalist: What is the current standing regarding the position of the Prime Minister? Mahinda Rajapaksa: Ranil Wickremesinghe is still the Prime Minister of this government. I think the best option here is to go for people's opinions. As of now half of the cabinet has resigned. We are keeping a close eye on the situation. Journalist: What is your opinion about the Presidential election? Mahinda Rajapaksa: It was a fair election. We are thankful to the Election Commission for conducting a peaceful election. The media too. Journalist: In this election, hasn't there been a division between two communities? Mahinda Rajapaksa: If it seems like that but, that is not how it should be. Journalist: Will the provincial council election be held first, or will the General election be held first? Mahinda Rajapaksa: Let's see about that. I think its ideal if the general election is held first. Journalist: We sensed several members of the United National Party are willing to work with you. Mahinda Rajapaksa: Yes Journalist: Are you ready to give them a chance at the next election? Mahinda Rajapaksa: We will look into it, We will hold discussions and will work accordingly. We are intending on winning that as well. Journalist: How long will it take to develop this country? Mahinda Rajapaksa: We need to start on our work as soon as possible. That is what has happened. But this cannot be done as there are 2 governments. The president is from one party, the prime minister and the cabinet is from another party. They should accept the public mandate and let one party govern this nation. That is the only way this can be done.
