COLOMBO (News 1st) - An alms giving was held at the Abhayaramaya Viharya in Narahenpita inline with the birthday of the opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. The almsgiving was held under the auspices of the Chief Incumbent of the Narahenpita Abhayaramaya Vihara Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero. The event was attended by the opposition leader and several others. Journalist: What is the current situation regarding the position of the Prime Minister? Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that current prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will remain in power until people exercise their mandate at the upcoming general election. He added that already half of the cabinet has resigned from their ministerial portfolios. According to Mahinda Rajapaksa, the presidential election was a peaceful election on account of the Election Commission, security officials and media. Journalist: In this election, hasn't there been a division between two communities? Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that it looked that way and it should not be like that way. He said that the General Election is preferred first between the provincial council election and the general election. Journalist: We sensed several members of the United National Party are willing to work with you. Mahinda Rajapaksa responded that they will review and engage in this matter further. He went on to note that they expect to develop the country as soon as possible. However, a cabinet from another party would interrupt the process and added that the government should accept the public mandate and let one-party rule. Journalist: What will you do for the ones involved in corruption? Mahinda Rajapaksa assured that they would not seek political revenge, however, they would punish the culprits.
