Colombo (News 1st): This year, a record 35 candidates contested the Presidential Election.

Sajith Premadasa

Location - Weerawila Suranimala Primary School The presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front Sajith Premadasa cast his vote this morning, at the Abayapura Suranimala Primary school in Lunugamwehera, Weerawila.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Location - Viwekarama Temple, Nugegoda The presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna, Gotabaya Rajapaksa cast his vote at the Viwe-karama Temple at Nugegoda. Speaking to the media Rajapaksa confidently noted that the entire country will be blessed with a bright future.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake

Location - Abeysingheramaya, Panchikawatte Presidential candidate of the National People's Power Movement Anura Kumara Dissanayaka cast his vote at the Panchikawatte, Abesingheramaya. Speaking to the media he noted that their party brought forward a new dimension, a new policy dialogue and have shown the country the path for development. He believes that the general public will place their confidence in them, and will make them win.

Duminda Nagamuwa

Location - Veera Madduma Bandara Junior School, Horana The presidential candidate of the Frontline Socialist Party, Duminda Nagamuwa cast his vote at the Weera Madduma Bandara Junior School in Horana today. Nagamuwa noted that whoever wins on the 17th or 18th, they will not serve the general public and fulfil the needs of the general public. He added that they will act to the tunes of foreign embassies.

Ven. Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero

Location - Sri Subuthi Maha Vidyalaya, Battaramulla Presidential candidate of the Janasetha Peramuna Ven. Battaramulle Seelarathana Thero cast his vote at the Sri Subuthi Maha Vidyalaya in Battaramulla. The Thero noted that it does not matter who wins the election, however, all Sri Lankans must maintain peace, harmony and the rule of law. He requested the public to not harass or attack any political party as the entire international community is watching Sri Lanka.

M.L.A.M.Hizbullah

Location - Al-Hira Maha Vidyalaya, Kattankudy Independent presidential candidate M.L.A.M.Hizbullah cast his vote at the Al-Hira Maha Vidyalaya in Kattankudy this morning.

M. K. Shivajilingam

Location - Sidambar Vidyalaya, Velvetithurai Independent presidential candidate M. K. Shivajilingam cast his vote this morning at the Sidambar Vidyalaya in Velvetithurai.

Dr. Rohan Pallewatte

Location - Nugahena Purana Viharaya, Gampaha Presidential Candidate of the National Development Front Dr. Rohan Pallewatte cast his vote at the Nugahena Purana Viharaya in Gampaha. Speaking to the media he said this was the first time he cast his vote to his own name. He added that many failed to fulfil their duties and responsibilities to the general public and it was against this backdrop, he decided to contest the election.

Location - Ananda New Model C

ollege, Boralesgamuwa Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Socialist Party, Dr. Ajantha Perera cast her vote at the Ananda New Model College in Boralesgamuwa. Dr. Ajantha Perera said they engaged in this political campaign with great responsibility. She believes more women will join politics in the future. She added that they wish this country will be blessed with a good leader.

A.S.P Liyanage

Location - Susamayawardane College, Borella The presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Labour Party A.S.P Liyanage cast his vote at the Susamayawardane College in Borella. Speaking to the media he said;
"For the first time, we are all experiencing a peaceful election in Sri Lanka. We are grateful to President Maithripala Sirisena and the National Election Commission for this."

Sirithunga Jayasuriya

Location - Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo Presidential candidate of the United Socialist Front Sirithunga Jayasuriya, cast his vote at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya in Colombo today. Speaking to the media the candidate noted that as the United Socialist Front, they tried their best to present their policies, vision, and principles to the general public.

Location - Selwathugoda Community Center, Yakkala Independent presidential candidate Piyasiri Wijenaike cast his vote at the polling center at the Selwathugoda Community Center in Yakkala.

Location - Holy Family Balika Primary School, Wennappuwa. Independent presidential candidate Milroy Fernando cast his vote at the polling center at the Holy Family Balika Primary School in Wennappuwa.

Location - Christ King College, Tudella The presidential candidate of the Nawa Sihala Urumaya, Sarath Manamendra cast his vote at the polling center at Christ King College in Tudella.

Saman Perera

Location - Zahira College, Kurunegala Presidential candidate of the Ape Janabala Party Saman Perera cast his vote at Zahira College in Kurunegala.

Aruna De Soysa

Location - Ganegodalla Pre School, Balapitiya Presidential candidate of the Democratic National Movement Aruna De Soysa cast his vote at the polling station at the Ganegodalla Pre School in Balapitiya.

Ajantha De Soysa

Location - Urawatte Gangaramaya Temple, Ambalangoda Presidential candidate of the Ruhunu Janatha Party Ajantha De Soysa cast his vote at the polling station based at the Urawatte Gangaramaya Temple in Ambalangoda.

Baddegamage Nandamitra

Location - Makandara Sri Sudarshana Vidyalaya - Kesbewa Presidential Candidate of the Nava Sama Samaja Party Baddegamage Nandamitra cast his vote at the Makandara Sri Sudarshana Vidyalaya in Kesbewa.

Ariyawansha Dissanayaka
