Colombo (News 1st): Local and International Election Monitors have commenced operations on the 2019 Presidential Election. Commissioner-General of the National Elections Commission Saman Sri Ratnayake speaking to News 1st said, 17 International Monitors arrived in the country on an invitation extended by the NEC.
Separately, the European Union has 88 observers, the Forum of the Election Management Bodies of South Asia has 20 observers, The Commonwealth Observer Group has 15 overseers and the Asian Network for Free Elections has 45 observers in Sri Lanka for the Presidential Election.
The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence said it has placed approximately 3000 personnel across the Island.
