Tamil community in the East has a right to select a chief minister - PM Ranil Wickremesinghe

COLOMBO(News 1st) - The youth conference in support of the New Democratic Front was held in Ampara yesterday(November 06). The event was chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe speaking at the event noted that the opposition has sorted to racist tactics because they have nothing to say that can combat the work done by the current Government. He added that the opposition camp has announced that Pillayan would be appointed as the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province if they come into power. The premier noted that this is not the right thing to do adding that the Tamil, Muslim and Sinhala communities in the East have a right to chose their own Chief Minister. Wickremesinghe added that they would ensure that the people of the region have this democratic right. PM Wickremesinghe noted that the opposition is attempting to spread racist ideologies by claiming that the UNP has entered into secret agreements with the Tamil parties. He questioned how individuals who make such statements can bring about reconciliation in the country.
