Colombo (News 1st): NDF Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa says the government will not sign the Millenium Challenge Corporation Agreement (MCC) with the United States of America before the 16th of this month.
He made this statement in a letter addressed to Ven. Ududumbara Kashyapa Thero, who launched a protest fast against the signing of the agreement at the Independence Square yesterday. The letter further stated that if the agreement is to be signed following the presidential polls, it will be done so after discussions in Parliament.
Sajith Premadasa in the letter states, he will not enter into any agreement which is harmful to the country. In his letter to Ven. Ududumbara Kashyapa Thero, Sajith Premadasa further stated that any decision on the agreement will be reached after holding discussions with the Maha Sanga.
After receiving the letter from NDF Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa, ven. Ududumbara Kashyapa Thero decided to call off the protest fast.
