COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has heavily criticized the convention organized by the organization to protect the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, to be held in Colombo tomorrow (November 05). Frontline leaders of the party stated that disciplinary action will be taken against all those attending the conference tomorrow. The convention is set to take place under the leadership of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, and former Minister Kumara Welgama. Issuing a release, Party General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara stated that this organization is acting without the permission of the SLFP. He added that the decision to act in such a manner, at a time where the Central Committee of the Party had decided to support Gotabaya Rajapaksa's candidacy, was considered a violation of party protocol. He further added that action will be taken against all public representatives and organizers affiliated to the party, that will be taking part in the convention. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Deputy Chairman of the SLFP: "We have formed an alliance with 17 parties and will work to ensure Gotabaya Rajapaksa is victorious. At the Central Committee meeting tomorrow, we will make a decision to take disciplinary action against all those who will either directly or indirectly violate party policy decisions." UPFA MP Kumara Welgama added, "We have not stopped in our mission to protect the SLFP. All SLFPers around the country have come together. That is why those in the Central Committee are in fear. They are now saying they will revoke my membership. And that they will remove Madam Chandrika from her position as a patron. They are doing all this in fear. These people who come from all sides do not know the value of this party. They think the Pohottuwa is more valuable. They don't have an SLFP anymore. Only we do. Only original SLFPers feel the real situation." In addition, UPFA MP Kumara Welgama shared his thoughts on the matter in the Ilakaya Programme aired on Sirasa TV. Kumara Welgama noted that the SLPP did not agree to any of the conditions they brought forward and they are not ready to work with a devil. He added that if the SLPP loses, all of them will come running back to the SLFP.
