Minister Thalatha Atukorale: "Waidyalankara who was appointed to nab thieves has been nabbed by thieves. He was bought for money and now he is not even in the country. He retired a few days back from the Financial Crimes division. He swept all the cases against the Rajapaksa's, under the carpet. He did not conduct a proper investigation. The Attorney General's Department did not have legal grounds to initiate a court case. Now, his wife and son have been summoned to courts. They are claiming that we have asked them to accuse the Rajapaksa's." Police media spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekara: "This probe is being conducted into a group of people including the wife of retired Senior DIG Ravi Waidyaaankara, Esella Pathirajage Mary Basilica and his son, Asela Jayampathi Rajasundara Waidyalankara. We also obtained a court order on the 21st of this month to gather information regarding 14 companies including the one named Sooriya International Corporation Pvt. Ltd., and 75 other financial institutions. This B- report consists of many pages. Anyone can obtain a copy of it for their perusal. You can understand how the scam has occurred and which laws have been breached. Further investigations into this matter are being conducted based on the guidance of the Attorney General. It should also be mentioned, that the spouse of retired Senior DIG Ravi Waidyalankara had been summoned to appear before the Police FCID on two previous occasions. However, she has failed to appear before the FCID and the officials at the FCID have it on record. Further, the spouse and son of Ravi Waidyalankara have been summoned to appear before the FCID again on the 4th and 5th of November, respectively. The second probe is being conducted against retired Senior DIG Ravi Waidyalankara by the Special Investigation Unit of the Police Headquarters. The probe is being conducted under log number 82/2016. This complaint has been lodged at the Special Investigation Unit of the Police Headquarters on September 14th, 2016. It has been lodged by a person named Nimal Chandrarathna Korala. He is the Managing Director of a firm named Komuthi Engineering Pvt. Ltd. In his complaint, he has said, a special investigation is being carried out by the FCID into Komuthi Engineering and that retired Senior DIG Ravi Waidyalankara had requested for a sum of Rs 75mn to end the investigation. Further, the complaints states, since the sum had not been paid, the investigation had been done in a partial manner detrimental to him. The complaint was examined by the Special Investigations Unit of the Police Headquarters and analytical reports relating to telephone conversations have also been obtained. The summary of the investigation has been directed to the Attorney General for further guidance on April 5th 2019. Further, another complaint had been lodged at the Special Investigations Unit of the Police Headquarters under the log number 26/ 2019, against Ravi Waidyalankara. This complaint had been lodged by a woman. However, since it was revealed that the complaint was merely lodged due to a personal dispute, that log has been closed. Apart from that, I am unable to comment on an alleged media briefing which he has held."
