COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Kandy Teaching Hospital was officially made a National Hospital today (October 30). Set up in 1860 as an infectious disease hospital, the Kandy Teaching Hospital was given its name in 1964 and today it is a fully equipped hospital in the Central Province. The hospital is well known for performing transplants and Sri Lanka's first-ever heart transplant took place at the Kandy National Hospital. The staff over 500 has been employed at the hospital and facilitates medication to more than 3000 patients daily.
