COLOMBO (News 1st) – A 35-year-old mother of one was given two life sentences after she was found guilty of two indictments for the possession of 6.33g of heroin and peddling heroin.

The suspect was arrested by the Police Narcotic Bureau in 2012 opposite her residence in Obeysekerapura, Rajagiriya.

Senior State Counsel Thushari Dayaratne appearing for the Attorney General requested court to impose the maximum punishment on the suspects.

Delivering the verdict, Colombo High Court Judge Shashi Mahendran said the suspect had evaded court for a long period after obtaining bail and has remained in the custody after her re-arrest until the conclusion of the case.
