COLOMBO (News 1st)- It was reported that the National Election Commission has decided to minimize the usage of ballot boxes made of timber. Commissioner General, Saman Sri Rathnayake stated that they would use timber ballot boxes for the polling stations with less than 400 votes. He added that there are only 340 polling stations with less than 400 votes in the country. For the rest of the polling stations in the country, cardboard ballot boxes are to be used. He further added that cardboard boxes are to be designed based on the number of votes in the polling stations, below 800, 1500 and 2500. According to the Commissioner-General, however, for the polling stations in Northern, North Central and Eastern provinces plastic ballot boxes which were purchased before are to be used.
