United Left Front to support Sajith Premadasa

Colombo (News 1st): The Nawa Sama Samaja Peramuna convened a media briefing today (October 25). Speaking at the media briefing General Secretary of the United Left Front Keerthi Kariyawasam noted that the Central Working Committee of the United Left front after taking into consideration the clear and immediate threat posed by Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the extremist forces behind him to the democracy of Sri Lanka, has decided to support the presidential candidate representing the New Democratic Front as he is the candidate who has the highest chance to defeat Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He requested the general public and their party supporters to vote for the candidate of the New Democratic Front. He added that as per the decision reached on September 26th, 2019, if any of their party supporters wish to cast their second preference, they should cast the second preference vote for the presidential candidate of the National People's Power. He said that Lal Wijeyanayake resigned from the position of secretary and former councillor of the Western Provincial Council Keerthi Kariyawasam was appointed to the position of secretary of the United Left Front. Adding to this the National Organizer of the United Left Front Dr Jayampathy Wickremeratne noted that the issue today is not regarding the announcing of the election, the question is will there be a fascist type stern regime created in the country. He believes that it is clear that they are now close to such a regime being created in the country. He said this is not a vague danger but a very clear danger and is an immediate threat. Dr Wickremeratne noted that there are many criticisms against this government, the nature of this enemy at the gate is more dangerous than all of that. He said not only Gotabaya Rajapksa but even the people behind him. A year ago at Viyath Maga conference with Gotabaya Rajapaksa standing in front of him, Kamal Gunaratne said that not only the people who work towards constitutional amendments but even people who support constitutional amendments should be killed and like in 87/89 steps should be taken not to allow their bodies to be carried above knee height. He said it is pointless for us to play the flute any longer when the devil is at the door. He stressed that it is the reason why they had to take this difficult decision at this juncture of time.
