Rain to continue : 75 - 100 mm in most parts of the country

Colombo (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology states that many areas around the country could experience rainfall of about 75 - 100 mm. Meanwhile, the landslide warning issued for districts including Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kandy, and Badulla will be in effect till 6.00 pm today (October 19). Geologist Wasantha Senadhira at the Landslide Studies Division of the National Building Research Organization says that the Dehiowita and Yatiyantota Pradeshiya Sabha of the Kegalle district were thus issued with landslide warnings. Two sluice gates of the Kalawewa have been opened due to the prevailing rains. The assistant director of the Disaster Management Centre, Pradeep Kodippili says that the general public residing on either side of the Kala-Oya must take extra precautions. Meanwhile the media spokesperson of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardene says that nearly 1000 area residents in Karawitagara, Chilaw are facing power outages due to the prevailing rains.
