Ceylon Worker's Congress inks a MoU with SLPP

Colombo (News 1st): A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ceylon Worker's Congress (CWC) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) was signed in Colombo today (October 18). When the national council of the Ceylon Workers Congress met recently, they unanimously decided to pledge their support to Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the upcoming presidential election. The MoU was signed by Professor G.L. Peiris for the SLPP and Arumugan Thondaman for the Ceylon Workers Congress. Speaking to the media National Organizer of the CWC Attorney-at-Law R. Rajadurai noted that when the question as to who will the Ceylon Workers Congress support in the upcoming presidential election arose they took a long time to find an answer. However, he noted that their leader requested that the party's national council take a decision in this regard and interestingly, their National Council which has around 300 members, unanimously agreed to support Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the upcoming poll. He added that they will work day and night towards ensuring the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Meanwhile, the chairman of the SLPP Professor G.L. Peiris noted that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is contesting the upcoming presidential election representing many segments of society. He noted that the performance of the tea industry has declined considerably and those dependent on this industry are also suffering. He said Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has promised to increase the daily wage of tea estate workers up to Rs 1000. Representing the political parties supporting the SLPP, Dinesh Gunewardena, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Udaya Gammanpila, Tissa Vitarana, and Dayasiri Jayasekara attended the event.
