Colombo (News 1st): A meeting of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party was held in Wilgoda, Kurunegala yesterday (October 10). The meeting was chaired by the leader of the SLPP Mahinda Rajapaksa. Kurunegala District parliamentarians Johnston Fernando, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, T.B. Ekanayake and Tharanath Basnayake attended the meeting. Speaking at the meeting the Leader of the SLPP Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that they are hoping to divide the votes therefore there are 35 presidential candidates. He questioned as to whose votes they are trying to break? He added that today their party has fielded a candidate who loves the country, a candidate who can work for the country and a candidate who has shown that he can work for the country. He noted that they did listen to the UNP meeting for a while and all they did was sling mud at them. He remembered that they said all of these same stories back in 2015, however, they did not speak about what they did for the past four and a half years. Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that the UNP did not speak about the Central bank bond scam and about how they removed the Chief Justice as they came into power promising to protect democracy. Mahinda Rajapaksa added that this government was so devious that they imprisoned the secretary to the president saying that he distributed Sil cloth. He assured that this government will not protect state sector employees, therefore, he noted that the public cannot expect this government to protect them. He pointed out that their only intention was to seek revenge and that is what they did, because of this, they did not have time to do anything else. He said today the UNP has taken Rs. 24 billion in loans and when questioned they say that they used it to pay off loans that Rajapaksa took during his regime. He said, which means that the UNP has taken three times the value of the loan that he took to pay off the loan that he had taken. He questioned; "What happened to the balance?" Rajapaksa noted that they simply make these statements at meetings to get some applause from the crowd and when they are asked what did you do for the people they say that they established democracy. He noted that democracy is the only thing that they have given the people. Rajapaksa stressed that they worked during their time to make this country. He said they have a team that can work well. He pointed out that they have presented a talented candidate who can work well. Adding to this UPFA MP Johnston Fernando noted that a meeting was held at Galle Face, where they brought back the old frying pan. He added that Champika and Rajitha are talking about the same things that they spoke of for the past four and a half years, however, what did they do during the past four and a half years. He said this is an inefficient government, with inefficient leaders and they tried to attack and destroy talented people.
