Rs 45.8mn allocated to remove illegal campaign posters and cut-outs

COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to the National Elections Commission, the expenditure estimated for the Presidential Election will increase further due to a record number of 35 candidates contesting the presidential election in November. In line with the submission of nominations, the ballot paper of the Presidential Election will increase up to 26 inches. According to the Chairman of the National Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya, a model of the ballot paper for the Presidential Election had already been sent to the Government Printer. 70 representatives are allowed at one voting center this time. The Commission further said that the ballot boxes used for the election have to be imported. Adding further the Commission noted that with the increased number of candidates, the ballot boxes and the officials attached to voting centres have to be increased. Police media spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that posters and cut-outs related to presidential election campaigns will be banned with immediate effect. He further added that they will take legal action against those who violate these rules and regulations. He added that if polythene is used for campaign decorations they would take legal action under the provisions of the National Environmental Act. He finally added that Rs 45.8mn has already been allocated to remove the illegal posters and cut-outs.
