COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Department of Meteorology stated that showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island tonight (October 06).

Accordingly heavy falls about 100 mm are forecast in some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Mullaitivu and Vavuniya districts.

Meanwhile, several areas were affected due to inclement weather that was experienced last night.

Around 10 houses in the Wewagedara area in Kurunegala were damaged due to a strong wind that swept across the area around 5:00 pm yesterday. The wind accompanied by rain completely destroyed one house while crops were also severely damaged.

According to our correspondent due to the condition, the electricity supply to over 300 houses in the area was disrupted. Earth slips were experienced in a section of the Castlereigh reserve due to the heavy showers experienced in the area last afternoon and another section of the reserve is currently facing the risk of landslide.

Landslides were experienced in the Norwood estate where the Keselgamu Oya joins the Castlereigh reservoir. Due to the landslide, a large section of the Earth had collapsed into the reserve while another section is on the verge of falling in.

In addition, the News 1st correspondent noted that the Castlereigh reservoir is reaching the spill level.
