Colombo (News 1st) Several parliamentarians commented on the dismissal of the petition regarding Gotabaya Rajapaksa's citizenship.
Non-Cabinet Minister of Science, Technology & Research, Sujeewa Senasinghe says;
There are so many illegal affairs of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, this matter was discussed ethically with Minister Sajith Premadasa. We have now gazetted the presidential election due to that we cannot take any cases against him at this moment. We are not going to appoint any attorneys. But we will let the courts function in a free and independent way. Any citizen has the right to file a case.
Media spokesperson of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe says;
The petitioners who filed a petition challenging Gotabaya Rajapaksa's dual citizenship, Gamini Wiyangoda and also Prof. Chandragupta Thenuwara are receiving death threats now and there is a great deal of hatred and violence on the other side. We would like to appeal to all those who defend law and order at this time we ask for the protection of these two petitioners.
UNP MP Mujibur Rahman also speaking about the incident said;
Sometimes there is a possibility that Gotabaya Rajapaksa will not contest. Because only those from the rogues' side will know what kind of things they robbed, what kind of corrupt activities they committed and what kind of fraudulent activities they were involved with. They will only know, more than all of us. Chamal Rajapaksa has been brought forward for this purpose. Now he is the backup option. The dual citizenship application is missing. So how will a court case move forward?
