Colombo (News 1st): Deposit for UNP presidential candidate Minister Sajith Premadasa was placed at the election commission today (October 4), under the swan symbol representing the New Democratic Front. The deposit was placed by the General Secretary of the New Democratic Front, Sharmila Perera, and non-cabinet ministers Ajith P. Perera and Sujeewa Senasinghe.
Speaking to the media Non-Cabinet minister Ajith P. Perera noted that Sajith Premadasa is a clean Sri Lankan, he does the right thing at the right time with the right team. He noted that, therefore, they are hoping to make Sajith Premadasa the president of all. He pointed out that they have the required strength, opportunity and luck to do that.
When questioned if the SLFP supporting SLPP is a disadvantage to them, he noted that they do not do politics based on the stance of the SLFP. He noted that they only engage in traditional politics. He said they already have an alliance, therefore, if they receive additional support, that's a bonus for them.
Adding to this Non-Cabinet Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe noted that they will visit the Temple of the Tooth on the 8th at 8:30 am. He said it will be clear who is going to win when the crowd arrives at the Galle Face on the 10th. Non-Cabinet Minister Ajith P. Perera pointed out that this will be the biggest public rally in the political history of Sri Lanka. He added that the Swan will be the symbol that unites the entire country.
Journalists questioned if the Swan symbol, which was used for 3 presidential elections, will be used on a rental basis for the upcoming election as well. Minister Ajith P. Perera noted that the swan is a symbol that united the entire country and it is the symbol that trusts democracy, and united everyone who will honestly work towards developing the country.
Adding to this Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe noted that on the other hand, Mahinda Rajapaksa fears the Swan symbol.
