UNP extends invitation to SLFP

COLOMBO (News 1st):- The United National Party has invited the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to hold discussions regarding the upcoming presidential election. General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Dayasiri Jayasekera was questioned by the media regarding this today. To which he replied saying that yesterday (September 28) the General Secretary of the UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had sent him a fax along with another letter as well. He further said that even Sajith Premadasa had spoken to him in the evening. He said that the request made by the General Secretary was for the UNP and the SLFP to hold discussions regarding the upcoming elections and the President was informed. Dayasiri said that although the matter is yet undecided that they will discuss and provide a prompt decision on the matter since decisions cannot be made alone, it has to be made along with the party seniors, therefore the President will also be consulted on the matter. He reiterated that a decision will be informed to them following discussions.
