Railway unions begin work-to-rule action

COLOMBO (News 1st):-  The Railway trade unions launched a work-to-rule trade union action with effect from midnight yesterday (September 19). The strike action was launched in protest against the Railway administration's decision to cover the cost incurred due to damages caused by train accidents from the drivers and staff. When News 1st inquired Railway Superintendent Dilantha Fernando, he said that such a cost will only be incurred after a particular person has been identified as guilty following investigations. He added that this decision was taken as a measure to ensure the security of the passengers. Meanwhile, the Railway Control room states that due to a signal malfunction that there would be a delay in about 50 trains traveling between the Colombo Fort and the Maradana railway stations. The railway workers are currently working to restore the situation.
