COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Chairman of the National Elections Commission confirmed to News1st a short while ago that the gazette notification announcing the Presidential Election has been issued. Thereby the Presidential election is set for the 16 of November.

The National Elections Commission will begin accepting of nominations from the 7th of October.

Of the major political parties in Sri Lanka the SLPP has announced Gotabaya Rajapaksa as their presidential candidate while JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is also set to contest the poll through the National People’s Power movement.

The UNP and the SLFP are yet to announce their presidential candidates.
