8 police officers interdicted for extorting money

Colombo (News 1st): 8 Police Officers including the OIC of the Chilaw anti-vice unit were interdicted for reportedly extorting money from a group of suspects. A Police Sub-Inspector, Police Sergeant, 5 Police Constables, and 1 Police Constable Driver were among those interdicted. Sri Lanka Police said, on September 6th the Police Officers in question had arrested a group of men for gambling at a hotel in the Wennappuwa Police Division. Of more than 20 suspects, only 9 were arrested and remaining suspects were released by Police. The Police Officers in question had reportedly taken away the money from the gambling den and in the possession of the suspects and engaged in the corrupt activities. They were interdicted following an investigation carried out by the Nattandiya Assistant Superintendent of Police.
