Colombo (News 1st) – The administration of the General Hospital in Chilaw stated that a special investigation is currently underway into the deaths of two individuals within a period of 48 hours. On the 11th of this month, a 37-year-old resident of Galahitiyawa, Madampe of Chillaw was admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital due to bleeding from his nose and mouth. Following the initial treatment, the patient was asked to take a CT scan.

Even though the Chilaw General Hospital had a CT scanner, due to the non-availability of staff members to operate it, the patient was transferred to the National Hospital along with a caretaker. The relatives of the deceased highlighted that he passed away even before he reached the National Hospital.

Relatives of the deceased stated that the patient was given oxygen in the ward but he was not supplied oxygen inside the ambulance. The relatives further mentioned that his condition worsened and the caretaker gave him oxygen when they were at Kochchikade. The relative further emphasized that an investigation has to be conducted into this matter.

Meanwhile, during the early hours of yesterday (September 13), a 26-year-old from Madampe, Chilaw was admitted to the Chillaw General Hospital with a complaint of stomach pain. Relatives of the deceased claim that the hospital did not treat the patient in the right manner.

Mother of the deceased lamented that her child died because the hospital did not attend to him properly. News 1st contacted the Director of the Chillaw General Hospital, Arosh Wijewickreme to inquire about this matter.

He stated that a special investigation is ongoing probing into these incidents.
