COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Ministry of Higher Education states that another discussion in order to resolve the issues of the state university non-academic staff who are currently engaged in strike action will be held next week. Secretary to the Ministry, M. M. P. K. Mayadunne says that the discussions which were held yesterday (September 12) with several representatives of these trade unions ended without a proper decision.
Meanwhile, semester examinations and lectures of several weekend courses have been hampered due to the ongoing strike action. Further, the Vice-Chancellors of the universities say that lectures are also not being held for the internal students.
The strike action that was launched by the non-academic staff of state universities citing several demands including a solution to salary anomalies enters day four today (September 13). President of the Collective of University trade unions, Dhammika S. Priyantha said that the strike action will worsen in time to come.
