Rathupaswala Shooting: AG files indictments against 4 army officials

Colombo (News 1st): The Attorney General today (September 11) filed indictments at the Gampaha High Court against Brigadier Anura Deshapriya Gunawardena and three army soldiers regarding the Rathupaswala shooting. Ninety-four indictments were filed against them for shooting dead three protestors and causing injury to the protestors during a demonstration at Rathupaswala, Weliweriya where people were demanding for clean drinking water. The charges include shooting dead three people on August 1st, 2013 at Rathupaswala, shooting and injuring another 12 people and injuring 21 others by assaulting them. The case will be taken up in the presence of a trial at bar comprising Justices Menaka Wijesundara, Wimal Ranaweera, and Nishantha Hapuarachchi.
