Colombo(News1st) - The Attorney General filed the indictment at the Permanent High Court Trial at Bar for the High Seas Arms Trafficking Case of MV Avant Garde involving Nissanka Senadhipathi and 12 others in respect of 7573 charges. These charges include the illegal possession of 816 automatic firearms and 202,395 live bullets aboard the MV Avant-Garde without any legal document.
The case was also filed against :
01. Retired Major General Palitha Fernando, who served as Chairman of Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Limited
02. Major General Karunaratne Banda Adhikari Egodawela, who served as CEO of Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Limited
03. Saman Dissanayake, Former Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Defence
04. Gennadiy Gavrilov, the Ukranian Captain aboard MV Avant-Garde
05. Victor Samaraweera, who served as Chairman of Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Limited
06. Sujatha Damayanthi Jayaratne, Former Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Defence
07. Don Alphos Thilakaratne
08. Visurujith Nandana Liyanage
09. Nirupul De Costa
10. Ponnathurai Balasubramanium Hemachandra
Incidentally, this case would be the first of its kind where the Attorney General filed an extremely large number of charges.
