Colombo (News 1st): SLFP Deputy Chairman Thilanga Sumathipala commented on the possibility of forming an alliance with the SLPP. He noted that the SLFP is registered as a party to contest the upcoming elections, however, they are yet to make a final decision. He noted that they must first understand their current political situation, to proceed with discussions. He added that SLFP will not agree to present a candidate under the SLPP logo. Sumathipala said the SLPP is embarking on this journey only because of the trust, the honour, the charisma and the guidance given by Mahinda Rajapaksa. He noted that Mahinda Rajapaksa lost the election by only obtaining 47% against a backdrop where he had executive powers and 2/3rd majority, having the tri-forces, having done a massive development and against a backdrop where he put an end to Prabhakaran and won the war. Therefore, Sumathipala said if someone can argue there is another person apart from Mahinda who is more charismatic, more talented and loved by the people in that party, it is evident that those people do not understand politics.
