Gotabaya Rajapaksa promises job oriented education for youth

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Trade Union Representative Convention of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was held today (September 02) with a focus on the upcoming Presidential Elections. The presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Gotabaya Rajapaksa who arrived at the event first addressed the gathering after his welcome. Gotabaya Rajapaksa agreed to a number of proposals put forward for the protection of the rights of the employees. Attorney-at-Law Sumith Weerasinghe, Secretary of the Progressive Trade Union Centre stated that the UNPs policy on selling national assets that began in 1977 had reached the Hambantota port. He added that with the Hambantota port altogether they have sold 95 national assets. He added that The Peoples' Bank, the oil tanks in Trincomalee, the agricultural lands in Bibile, Polonnaruwa, Kanthale, Trincomalee and Mannar are a few of them. He finally added that they should collectively persevere to defeat the current government which sells national assets and assist in establishing a government which would protect its national assets for the sake of the generations to come. Gotabaya Rajapaksa pledged his support to all the proposals submitted at the convention and he assured no extremist terrorism would emerge during his tenure. He promised Sri Lankan education policy would not leave Sri Lankan youth stranded and focus on skills which would cater to the job market. The Leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa's arrival at the venue coincided with the end of Gotabaya Rajapaksa's address.
