25 people call on Police HQ over deaths due to consumption of moonshine

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The relatives and area residents of those who died after consuming illicit liquor in the Baduragoda area in Mirigama lodged a complaint at the Police Headquarters yesterday(August 31). The complaint was lodged claiming that the law was not being implemented properly. The group charge that 13 people died and the rest now suffer due to various physical and mental illnesses following the incident which occurred on August 1st. The main suspect of the incident was remanded and the OIC of the Pallewela Police Station was transferred with immediate effect. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the Crime Investigation Unit of the Gampaha Division is conducting further investigations. 25 People arrived at the Police Headquarters to lodge the complaint. When the News 1st inquired the police said all evidence in relation to the incident and the suspect have been presented to the courts. The police stated that all measures have been taken to curb the use of illegal narcotics in the area.
