Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam summoned before the PCOI

COLOMBO (News 1st):- Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has once again been summoned to appear before the Presidential Commission inquiring into allegations regarding financial irregularities at state institutions for the past four years. The Minister was summoned in order to record a statement for the ongoing disciplinary inquiry against the Supply Director of the Ministry, I. M. K. B. Ilangasinghe. The Minister has been called before the commission at 9.00 am on September 2nd. He is summoned because of a complaint lodged by the supply director of the ministry at the commission stating that the disciplinary inquiry has been implemented by the subject minister with malicious intent. During a previous investigation on the minister's act of printing his photograph on school textbooks, the minister had reportedly transferred the supply director as he provided evidence for the case. However, following investigations, the PCOI ordered that the transferred individual be reinstated as the supply director of the ministry. The PCOI stated that the disciplinary inquiry was called on by the minister against the same individual following this incident.
